Artist's Statement / David Robert Farmerie

David Robert Farmerie PortraitOn the surface the overall body of my work may seem oddly diverse, even disconnected, but it contains the common threads of curiosity and the desire to share. Creating the photographic image, regardless of its genre, is about exploration and defining moments that tell a story. It is about capturing, and preserving time. It is about sharing and engaging the common soul. I strive to show the relationships between my subjects and ourselves. My Documentary and Humanistic work is at the core of my profession as a photographer. In 1990 I decided to engage, predominantly, in photographic projects that add to the ‘greater good’ of humanity. My work with Florals and Landscapes has always been part of my cathartic process from the documentary and humanistic work. Through this dichotomy of subject matter I find balance and sanity.

Through my documentary images I explore the mysteries and stories of the world’s cultures and people. Through my Humanistic images I capture moments in order to teach, and to gain understanding through the frozen moments of the images, allowing for introspection and ponder. Within my florals, and landscapes, I search for the moments that go unseen by the passing of time before our eyes: the nuances and the essence of nature at its purest.
