I came across the broken Sand Dollar - shattered into pieces on my large, wooden worktable. As I finished photographing it, I came back into the main studio only to see this Crane Fly resting upon the vertical section of my paper backdrop.
I scrambled to bring my camera, and tripod in from the other room. Then I scrambled to set up another light source. Surprisingly I was able to do all of this without the insect budging at all. I made several frames, then stopped. As I walked away from the camera, and sat down across the room, the Crane Fly flew off.
I have created two very distinctive versions of this image: Plate One, and Plate Two. For me I saw this image in two very different ways, in my mind: a literal visual translation, but also one stripped of the influences of its natural coloring - thereby exemplifying the beauty of its divine design.
