The Yam fell out of the grocery bag, just as I was lifting it to the counter. For me it was a sign that it wanted to be photographed. Technically, as I found it on the floor, after the fall, I was able to justify it as a “Found” object.
The process of photographing this subject was a lengthy one, in that the logistics were illusive to me. And in the post process (after the image was made), my creative insight continued to evolve from a rather lovely - but very straight-forward representation, to what is presented here.
As always, with my work, I allow my creative process to unfold until it’s journey has been fully realized. With this image I journeyed through 17 variations . The first four, of five were dramatic evolutions. But the remaining twelve were very subtle, almost - but not quite, indistinguishable.

And yes, after I finished photographing the yam, I baked it, and ate it - with butter and cinnamon!
