The Historic Phillippe Covered Bridge, in Phillippe, West Virginia.

The Philippi Covered Bridge, spans the Tygart Valley River. The bridge, constructed in 1852, by Lemuel Chenoweth - who was known for his Appalachian bridge building. The bridge is the primary Phillippe Historical Landmark. The bridge played a vital role in the American Civil War, in the Battle of Phillippe. It is the oldest, and longest covered bridge in West Virginia. It is also the only covered bridge serving the U.S. Federal Highway system.
