The Cathedral of Merida

The Cathedral of Merida is one of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas. Built on the site of an ancient Mayan ruin, during the 16th century, it was the first cathedral to be finished on the mainland of the Americas. The architecture is very reminiscent of the architectural style of Andres de Vandelvira - which were first used in the design of the cathedral of Jaan. Throughout the day, even when there is no mass, people occupy the cathedral's pews.
